As we are coming up to the Summer Holidays there is no better chance to kill boredom than by getting the kids and heading out on a day trip. We all give out about our country but we are lucky in that there are really lots of things to do around the country that will not only capture the kid’s imagination but will also entertain the adults too.
No surprises here but in Ireland we are guilty of not going to some of our own top attractions which is unfortunate really as we are missing out. I was actually here for the first time ever yesterday and want a fantastic experience it really is. Highly recommended and easy to see why it is the Number 1 attraction in Ireland.
Tayto Park is one of Ireland’s newest attractions but has been getting some rave reviews of late. We went last year and had a fantastic day out, the park is well laid out and the staff are very friendly. The Kid’s zip line is fantastic and the slide is enormous.
3. Loftus Hall
You probably would not expect to see a haunted house on a list of places to take the children however Wexford’s Loftus Hall is a brilliant pace to visit. They do kids tours during the day and the staff are fantatsic at telling the old ghost stories. The house itself is fascinating too for adults and is a little bit scary when you walk round. Great value for money and is also very close to the Hook Lighthouse so you get two places to visit when you come down to the area.
Bunratty Castle is the most complete and authentic medieval fortress in Ireland. Built in 1425 it was restored in 1954 to its former medieval splendour. Located in Limerick the castle itself has been voted one of Ireland’s best attractions due to the large interactive element that they place on each visit.
Fun does not have to be all slides and bouncy castles. The Science Gallery in Dublin is actually free to enter and is a great way to pass an hour or two and also actually learn something. Depending on what exhibition is on, kids can interact and learn in a fun way whilst also being treated to something nice in the coffee shop afterwards. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea but certainly worth a go.
